Statistics and Modelling

Year 13 Statistics    (13MST)

The general aim is to provide a course of mathematical study appropriate for pupils interested in quantitative aspects of the biological and social sciences, medicine, commerce and administration, and in general any field where the collection, analysis and interpretation of quantitative data is important.

The following topics are included:

  • Time series and making predictions
  • Confidence intervals and sample statistics
  • Probabilities and expectation, (permutations and combinations - selected students only)
  • Probability distributions
  • Evaluating statistically based reports

Students study five topics (standards) that count for 19 credits towards Level 3 NCEA.

Internal Standards (Assignments)

  • 91587  (3.2)  Apply systems of simultaneous equations in solving problems  (3 credits)
  • 91580  (3.8)  Investigate time series data  (4 credits)

External Standards (Exams)

  • 91585  (3.13)  Apply probability concepts in solving problems  (4 credits)
  • 91586  (3.14)  Apply probability distribution in solving problems  (4 credits)
