Kia ora Parents and CaregiversIt is likely that you will have heard the news through the media about school closures. I am sending this email after receiving further clarification from the Ministry of Education. We have now been informed by the Secretary of Education that all Auckland schools will remain closed until Tuesday, 7 February. National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) asked the Ministry of Education to take action to help minimise traffic movement on Auckland roads while vital infrastructure is urgently repaired.
I do understand that children will be disappointed, and parents will be frustrated especially if you have to organise care. We were looking forward to have a pōwhiri to welcome new students to the college on Tuesday. After two years of disrupted starts due to Covid I was hoping for a smooth uncomplicated start to the year.
The Ministry has suggested that where possible online learning should take place. However, this is not practical as teachers are unable to set up Google Classroom as they have yet to meet their classes. Year 9 and other new students need to be connected to the school IT network which can only be undertaken at school.
Year 9 students, other new students to the college and peer support leaders will commence school on Tuesday, 7 February and the programme originally planned for Wednesday, 1 February will be followed. All other Year levels (Years 10-13) will commence school on Wednesday, 8 February. School will commence at 8.40am and there will not be the usual Wednesday late start. Further information will be provided as it comes to hand.
Stay safe and dry and we look forward to seeing you in person very soon.
