Our friendly Parents Association invites you to come and be a part of our lively group. We love to see new faces and the more members we have, the more we are able to achieve, and, ultimately, enhance the school for our children and future generations.
The Association’s job is to foster community spirit among parents and also raise money for the school. We do this by catering at many functions throughout the school year and by running fundraising events - always a great way to bring the school community together.
Fundraising is becoming increasingly important at Glendowie College, especially now it has been deemed a decile 10 school, which means financial support from the government is significantly reduced.
Our two major fundraising events each year are the 'Big Night Out' at the end of Term 2 and the College 'Fun Run' at the end of Term 3. The 'Big Night Out' is a themed dance and is a huge success year after year as parents get to spend a rare night out dancing away to a live band. Fabulous decorations, great food and a bar contribute to the occasion.
The 'Fun Run' is an opportunity for the college to link with the Glendowie / St Heliers community as everyone, young or old, is invited to take part. Some of the local primaries are friendly rivals for having the most participants at the event!
Being on the PA or even a Friend of the Parents' Association, is a great way to feel involved in the school and find out a bit more about what goes on than what you may learn from your teenager! It also a forum for you to give feedback to staff and have a say on proposed changes.
We meet roughly once a month in the college staffroom on Thursdays at 7pm for about an hour. Meetings are also attended by a senior staff member and a trustee of the Board who each give an update on events.
We hope to see you soon.
Meetings are held in the Staffroom at 7pm.
