March Meeting : Wednesday 20 May 2026
Dear Glendowie College community,
Firstly, the Board would like to thank Andre Worsnop (Deputy Principal Curriculum), who is leaving us today, for his years of dedication, knowledge and commitment to the many areas he has been responsible for and had input into. We wish him well in his next endeavour. Congratulations to Melanie van Ansem (currently Faculty Leader English) who has been appointed to replace Andre to join the Senior Leadership Team. Melanie impressed the recruitment team with her knowledge of the curriculum refresh requirements, college understandings and external connections and contacts.
At our last meeting, we were graced by the presence of Philippa Jones (Deputy Principal and MYP Coordinator), who illustrated the framework of MYP and how it is educating our students to be global learners. The school’s challenge is to work through how we dovetail the MYP framework with the curriculum changes being drip fed by the Government. However, the Board is confident that our staff and processes, as recognised in our exceptional ERO report, will seamlessly integrate curriculum changes and student learning. A huge thank you to all staff who contributed to the success of the ERO report. The report is available for view on the college website https://www.gdc.school.nz//home/board/ero-report.
Term 2 has been another busy term for social connections, the 65th Anniversary Alumni Celebration and Shade Sail opening was a great afternoon reconnecting with friends serenaded by the school band, then the Years 12s and 13s got glammed up for their ball, and the Parent/Teacher/Student conferences in person and online were well attended. Many thanks to the parents who provided meals for the teachers. In addition, the number of students involved in winter sports are impressive with excellent sports results recently and a number of students being selected for international teams or winning National Championships.
We are looking ahead to the 2027 enrolment process, so if you know families intending to join the college next year, please get them to submit their applications early.
Wishing you a healthy remainder of Term 2, remember if your child is unwell, please keep them home so they don’t share the germs with their peers!
Ngā mihi nui,
Belinda Sutherland
Presiding Member
