For several years, international students have been contributing to the special character of Glendowie College. We are a strong academic school that takes pride in the high achievements of its students and provides support and encouragement for them to succeed in their studies.

Students are encouraged to choose from the full range of individual and team sports and outdoor activities offered.
Student Welfare
The Director of International Students, together with the House Deans, provides student support in all pastoral care matters. This includes enrolment, orientation, academic programmes, academic counselling, insurance, designated caregiver and homestay service arrangements. Regular contact is made with designated and extra caregivers and homestay providers.
Our College is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. To meet the Code of Practice Requirements and Standards, regular contact is maintained between the Director of International Students, the Homestay Director and each student and their homestay family. Guidance for international students in their own language is available if required.
English Language Skills
Evidence of English Language proficiency is a requirement of enrolment. English as a second language classes are provided by trained and specialist teaching staff at all levels. Students are “mainstreamed” (that is, attend our usual classes) to study other subjects. Senior students are prepared for the English Literacy standards required for entry into New Zealand universities.
